About These Birds

Enggano Cuckoo-Dove

Slender cuckoo-dove, 32–35 cm, uniform warm cinnamon-rufous with minimal barring and a relatively short tail. Restricted to Enggano Island off the southwestern coast of Sumatra. Inhabits dense lowland forest. Frugivore. Vulnerable due to extremely small range and ongoing forest loss on the island.

Eared Dove

Slender dove, 24–27 cm, similar to Mourning Dove with brown plumage, black facial spots, and a pointed tail, but shorter-tailed. Highly abundant across South America from Colombia to southern Argentina and Chile, the Caribbean and Galápagos. Granivore of seeds. One of South America's most numerous doves, forming huge flocks. Least Concern.
