Christmas Island Frigatebird
89–100 cm. Male all black with red gular pouch; female has distinctive white belly patch extending under wings. Breeds only on Christmas Island (Indian Ocean). Critically Endangered; fewer than 3,000 pairs threatened by mining, habitat loss, and introduced yellow crazy ants. Kleptoparasitic.
Lesser Frigatebird
71–81 cm, wingspan 175–193 cm. Smallest frigatebird; male all-black with white axillary spurs; female has white breast and spurs. Breeds Indian Ocean and western Pacific tropical islands. Kleptoparasitic and pursuit-feeds on flyingfish; brilliant red gular sac inflated at display.
