About These Birds

Flesh-footed Shearwater

41–45 cm, wingspan 99–107 cm. All-dark sooty-brown with pale flesh-coloured feet and yellowish bill base. Breeds southern Indian Ocean islands and SW Australia; ranges to North Pacific. Near Threatened; bycatch concern. Feeds on fish and squid; follows fishing vessels.

Zino's Petrel

33–36 cm. Small gadfly petrel; grey-brown above with white underparts and partial dark breast-band. Critically Endangered; breeds only on Madeira's high central mountains (fewer than 65 pairs). Threatened by light pollution, introduced predators. Long-distance migrations to Atlantic.
