A medium-sized frogmouth (25-29 cm) endemic to the Solomon Islands. Dark brown plumage. Nocturnal insectivore of lowland rainforest. One of the least known birds in its family due to its remote island range. Limited ecological data available.

Dark rufous-brown upperparts with black streaks and pale buff mottling; underparts buff barred dark brown; stiff rectrices unique in frogmouths; Solomon Islands endemic distinguished by rigid tail feathers and rich brown tones.

Endemic to the Solomon Islands in the southwestern Pacific. Found in lowland rainforest on major islands including Bougainville and Guadalcanal.
Diet & Feeding
Night-active predator catching large invertebrates (beetles, worms, centipedes) and occasionally small frogs by pouncing from a low perch.
