À propos
The Javan Myna (<em>Acridotheres javanicus</em>) is a member of the family Sturnidae, the starlings and mynas. Detailed plumage and behavioral descriptions of this species are limited in the available literature. Native to Java and Bali in Indonesia, its range has expanded through introductions to parts of Southeast Asia, including Singapore and Malaysia, where it has become locally abundant. It inhabits wetland-adjacent and urban environments, displaying the adaptability characteristic of many mynas. As an Acridotheres species, it is likely omnivorous, feeding on insects, fruit, seeds, and human food waste. Nesting records indicate a cavity-type and hole-cavity (HC) strategy, with an incubation period of 13 to 14 days. Clutch sizes range from two to five eggs. Despite its expanded introduced range, the Javan Myna is listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN, reflecting population pressures on its native range, possibly due to competition, habitat change, or collection for the cage-bird trade. Conservation attention remains important for its native Javan populations.
