Warm chocolate-brown body with paler buff-white tail graduating to dark brown tips; black crown; white ear tufts; brownish flight feathers; scarlet facial skin; whitish lower rump contrasts with brown back.

Ferruginous Partridge
A small partridge (~210 g) of family Phasianidae, with rich ferruginous (rust-red) plumage and spotted black-and-white markings. Inhabits lowland and foothill rainforests in Malaysia, Sumatra, and Borneo. Secretive, foraging on the forest floor for seeds and invertebrates. Near Threatened; associated with primary and tall secondary forest, declining with ongoing logging and land conversion.
Brown Eared-pheasant
A robust Phasianidae pheasant (~1.9 kg) endemic to montane broadleaf and mixed forests of northeastern China. Chocolate-brown with white ear tufts and a white rump.
