The Beautiful Nuthatch is a vulnerable and strikingly colored nuthatch of montane oak and rhododendron forests in the eastern Himalayas and adjacent hills. It has brilliant blue upperparts streaked with black and white, and a rich orange-buff underside. It creeps along tree trunks and branches searching for insects and seeds, and is threatened by forest loss.

It forages on tree bark for insects and larvae, creeping headfirst down trunks in typical nuthatch fashion. Habitat destruction and introduced predators have severely reduced its population.
