Der Mandschurenkranich ist eine der seltensten Kranicharten und in der ostasiatischen Kultur ein starkes Symbol für Langlebigkeit und Treue. Sein kunstvoller gemeinsamer Ruf und seine Tänze inspirieren seit Jahrtausenden Kunst und Folklore. Der Standvogelbestand auf der japanischen Insel Hokkaido erholte sich von rund 33 Vögeln im Jahr 1952 auf heute über 1.800.
Rosalöffler
Der Rosalöffler ist die einzige Löfflerart Amerikas und einer der auffälligsten Watvögel der westlichen Hemisphäre. Wie bei Flamingos stammt seine rosa Farbe von Carotinoid-Pigmenten aus seiner Beute an Krebstieren. Im 19. Jahrhundert wegen seiner Federn fast bis zur Ausrottung bejagt, haben sich die Bestände seither erheblich erholt.
