The Black-hooded Sierra-finch is a compact, ground-dwelling finch; males have a black hood, gray body, and rufous-brown upperwings, while females are more streaked brown. It inhabits high-altitude grasslands, rocky slopes, and puna scrub in the Andes from Peru south to northwestern Argentina, typically above 3,000 meters. It forages on the ground for seeds and insects.

The Azure-rumped Tanager is a Vulnerable tanager found in humid forests of Guatemala and southern Mexico, weighing about 14g with a wingspan of 17.5cm.
