Mandschurenstorch

Der Mandschurenstorch ist eine der am stärksten gefährdeten Storchenarten; in freier Wildbahn leben noch weniger als 3.000 Individuen. Einst war er in ganz Ostasien weit verbreitet, ging jedoch durch die Trockenlegung von Feuchtgebieten und den Einsatz von Pestiziden dramatisch zurück. Wiederansiedlungsprogramme in Japan und Korea konnten bemerkenswerte Erfolge erzielen.

Schnee-Eule

Die Schnee-Eule ist die schwerste Eule Nordamerikas und einer der charismatischsten Vögel der Arktis. Anders als die meisten Eulen ist sie größtenteils tagaktiv – bedingt durch das durchgehende Tageslicht der arktischen Sommer. Periodische Masseneinflüge der Schnee-Eule nach Süden hängen mit den Populationszyklen der Lemminge zusammen.
