Der Japanbrillenvogel ist in ganz Ostasien ein vertrauter Gartenvogel und wird in Japan, wo er „Mejiro“ genannt wird, besonders geschätzt. Diese geselligen Vögel bilden außerhalb der Brutzeit Schwärme und sind wichtige Bestäuber von Pflaumen- und Kirschblüten. Auf Hawaii eingeführte Populationen sind allerdings invasiv geworden und konkurrieren dort mit einheimischen Kleidervögeln.

Weighing about 9.85g with a wingspan of 11.2cm, it has bright yellow underparts and the characteristic white eye-ring of its family. It forages in flocks for nectar, small insects, and soft fruits.
