Seine rosa Farbe stammt ausschließlich von Carotinoid-Pigmenten in seiner Nahrung aus Krebstieren und Algen. Flamingos sind gesellige Vögel, die in riesigen Kolonien brüten, die mitunter Zehntausende Individuen umfassen.

Schnee-Eule

Die Schnee-Eule ist die schwerste Eule Nordamerikas und einer der charismatischsten Vögel der Arktis. Anders als die meisten Eulen ist sie größtenteils tagaktiv – bedingt durch das durchgehende Tageslicht der arktischen Sommer. Periodische Masseneinflüge der Schnee-Eule nach Süden hängen mit den Populationszyklen der Lemminge zusammen.
