Der Annakolibri ist der häufigste Kolibri entlang der Pazifikküste und eine von nur drei Kolibriarten, die ganzjährig in den USA verweilen. Männchen zeigen spektakuläre Sturzflüge aus 40 Metern Höhe und fangen sich mit einem lauten, von den Schwanzfedern erzeugten Zwitschern ab. Nachts kann ihre Körpertemperatur nahezu auf Umgebungstemperatur absinken, um Energie zu sparen.

A large hummingbird (13 cm) found in cloud forests of Costa Rica and western Panama at 1,500-3,000 m. Males have a blue-green throat. Recently split from Magnificent Hummingbird. Nectarivore of montane forest edges and gardens. A Central American highland endemic.
