About These Birds
Caspian Plover
Caspian Plover: 18–21 cm, long-legged plover with a broad chestnut breast-band bordered below by black in breeding male. Breeds on dry steppe from the Caspian east to Kazakhstan; migrates overland to winter on open short grassland and semi-arid savanna of eastern and southern Africa. Insectivorous. Long-distance migrant through the Middle East.
Spot-breasted Lapwing
Spot-breasted Lapwing: 28–30 cm, Ethiopian highland endemic lapwing with a black head and breast spotted white, and red legs. Restricted to high-altitude moorland and montane grassland above 1,800 m in Ethiopia. Insectivorous. Sedentary; rare and little-studied. Declining due to overgrazing and agricultural encroachment.
