Grey-throated Rail (Canirallus oculeus), 27 cm. Brown above; grey throat and breast; red eye and bill. Inhabits dense undergrowth of lowland forest in West and Central Africa. Omnivore: insects, snails and plant material. Least Concern; widespread but rarely seen.

African Rail

African Rail (Rallus caerulescens), 28 cm. Brown above with dark streaks; blue-grey underparts; barred white flanks; red bill and legs. Found in freshwater reedbeds and swamp margins across sub-Saharan Africa. Omnivore. Least Concern; common in wetland habitat.
