Der Wellensittich ist nach Hunden und Katzen das drittbeliebteste Haustier der Welt und mit Abstand der am häufigsten gehaltene Ziervogel. Wildlebende Wellensittiche ziehen in riesigen, nomadischen Schwärmen umher, die den Himmel verdunkeln können. Männchen können lernen, menschliche Sprache nachzuahmen; ein Rekordhalter beherrschte einen Wortschatz von 1.728 Wörtern.
Japanbrillenvogel
Der Japanbrillenvogel ist in ganz Ostasien ein vertrauter Gartenvogel und wird in Japan, wo er „Mejiro“ genannt wird, besonders geschätzt. Diese geselligen Vögel bilden außerhalb der Brutzeit Schwärme und sind wichtige Bestäuber von Pflaumen- und Kirschblüten. Auf Hawaii eingeführte Populationen sind allerdings invasiv geworden und konkurrieren dort mit einheimischen Kleidervögeln.
