Wildlebende Wellensittiche ziehen in riesigen, nomadischen Schwärmen umher, die den Himmel verdunkeln können. Männchen können lernen, menschliche Sprache nachzuahmen; ein Rekordhalter beherrschte einen Wortschatz von 1.728 Wörtern.
Kohlmeise
Die Kohlmeise ist die größte europäische Meisenart und einer der am besten erforschten Wildvögel der Welt. Studien im Wytham Wood bei Oxford verfolgen die Kohlmeisenpopulation bereits seit den 1940er-Jahren und haben enorm zur Ökologie- und Evolutionsforschung beigetragen. Berühmt wurde die einfallsreiche Kohlmeise dafür, dass sie im Großbritannien des 20. Jahrhunderts lernte, Milchflaschendeckel zu öffnen.
