About These Birds

76 cm. Greyish-brown; iridescent purple-green shoulder patch; bare grey-pink facial skin; reddish bill stripe. Very common and widespread across sub-Saharan Africa; increasingly colonises urban parks and gardens. Feeds on earthworms and invertebrates in lawns and open ground. Known for loud, far-carrying calls.

Wie bei Flamingos stammt seine rosa Farbe von Carotinoid-Pigmenten aus seiner Beute an Krebstieren. Im 19.
