Er zählt zu den frühesten Brutvögeln und legt seine Eier oft schon im Januar, wenn noch Schnee liegt. Der Virginia-Uhu ist ein gefürchteter Jäger, der regelmäßig Beute erlegt, die bis zu dreimal so schwer ist wie er selbst.
