How to Tell Them Apart
Brillenpinguin
Black upperparts and white underparts with a distinctive black horseshoe-shaped band across the breast. Pink patches of bare skin above the eyes help with thermoregulation.

About These Birds
Brillenpinguin
Der Brillenpinguin ist die einzige auf dem afrikanischen Kontinent heimische Pinguinart und wird wegen seines eselähnlichen, schreienden Rufs auch Eselspinguin genannt. Sein Bestand ist seit vorindustrieller Zeit durch Eiersammlung, Ölverschmutzungen und die Konkurrenz mit der kommerziellen Fischerei um Sardinen- und Sardellenbestände um über 95 % eingebrochen.

Die Felsentaube ist die Stammform aller Haustaubenrassen und einer der häufigsten Vögel in Städten weltweit. Tauben dienten dem Menschen als Boten, Nahrungsquelle und Forschungsobjekt – ihre Orientierungsfähigkeit und ihr Sehvermögen wurden ausgiebig erforscht. Darwins Studien zur Taubenzucht trugen wesentlich zu seiner Evolutionstheorie bei.
