How to Tell Them Apart

Der Brillenpinguin ist die einzige auf dem afrikanischen Kontinent heimische Pinguinart und wird wegen seines eselähnlichen, schreienden Rufs auch Eselspinguin genannt. Sein Bestand ist seit vorindustrieller Zeit durch Eiersammlung, Ölverschmutzungen und die Konkurrenz mit der kommerziellen Fischerei um Sardinen- und Sardellenbestände um über 95 % eingebrochen.

Die Rauchschwalbe ist die am weitesten verbreitete Schwalbenart der Welt und legt eine der längsten Zugstrecken aller Singvögel zurück. Ihre Ankunft kündigt in der gesamten nördlichen Hemisphäre den Frühling an und hat kulturelle Bezüge von der griechischen Antike bis zur modernen Dichtung inspiriert.
