Der Eissturmvogel ist ein langlebiger Seevogel, der über 40 Jahre alt werden kann. Er verteidigt sein Nest, indem er Eindringlinge mit übel riechendem Magenöl bespuckt, das die Federn von Fressfeinden verkleben und deren Wasserdichtigkeit zerstören kann – mitunter mit tödlichen Folgen. Der Eissturmvogel hat sein Brutgebiet in den letzten zwei Jahrhunderten drastisch nach Süden ausgedehnt.
