Der Emu ist der zweitgrößte lebende Vogel und der größte in Australien heimische Vogel. Er ist der einzige Vogel mit ausgeprägten Wadenmuskeln, die kraftvolles Laufen mit bis zu 50 km/h ermöglichen. Im berühmten „Emu-Krieg“ von 1932 wurde das australische Militär gegen erntefressende Emus eingesetzt – und die Emus gingen den meisten Berichten zufolge als Sieger hervor.
