Brown Booby
64–74 cm. Dark brown above; white belly and undertail; yellowish bill. The most widespread booby; breeds pantropically on islands worldwide. Feeds on fish and squid near land by plunge-diving; often follows ships. Ground or bush nester; aggressive and bold near colonies.
Blue-footed Booby
76–84 cm. Brown-and-white; vivid turquoise-blue feet diagnostic. Breeds Galapagos, Pacific coast of South and Central America. Uses elaborate sky-pointing displays with blue feet. Feeds on anchovies by plunge-diving; highly susceptible to El Niño food shortages.
