About These Birds

Light-mantled Albatross

Light-mantled Albatross, 79–89 cm, wingspan 183–218 cm, is perhaps the most graceful albatross: dark chocolate head and wings contrasting with pale grey body and back. Breeds on New Zealand sub-Antarctic islands and other Southern Ocean islands. Soars effortlessly in storm winds. Near Threatened.

Atlantic Yellow-nosed Albatross

Atlantic Yellow-nosed Albatross, 71–81 cm, wingspan 180–200 cm, breeds on Tristan da Cunha and Gough Island. Slender yellow culminicorn on dark bill; grey head, white body. Forages across the South Atlantic. Endangered; bycatch in longline fisheries remains a major threat.
