About These Birds

Grey-headed Quail-Dove

Small quail-dove, 24–27 cm, with a grey head and neck, rufous-brown back, white facial stripe, and pinkish-buff underparts. Inhabits montane and lowland forests of Cuba and the Dominican Republic (Hispaniola). Terrestrial forager of seeds and fruits on the forest floor. Vulnerable due to restricted island ranges and deforestation.

Rock Pigeon

The rock pigeon is the ancestor of all domestic pigeon breeds and one of the most abundant birds in cities worldwide. Pigeons have served humans as messengers, food, and subjects for scientific research — their homing ability and vision have been studied extensively. Darwin's study of pigeon breeding contributed to his theory of evolution.
