The Black Flowerpiercer is a small, entirely matte-black bird with a distinctively sharply hooked and upturned bill used to pierce the base of flowers and steal nectar. It inhabits high-altitude cloud forests, páramo scrub, and forest edges in the Andes of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia, typically above 2,000 meters.
