About Each Bird (Descriptions)
════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════ #}
Bonin Woodpigeon (Columba versicolor) — ~45 cm. Extinct. Inhabited Nakodo-jima and Chichi-jima in the Bonin (Ogasawara) Islands, Japan. Dark iridescent plumage; last recorded in 1889. Driven to extinction by hunting and habitat clearance following colonisation of the islands.
Slender cuckoo-dove, 32–35 cm, uniform warm cinnamon-rufous with minimal barring and a relatively short tail. Restricted to Enggano Island off the southwestern coast of Sumatra. Inhabits dense lowland forest. Frugivore. Vulnerable due to extremely small range and ongoing forest loss on the island.
