Common Ringed Plover: 17–19 cm, stocky shorebird with bold black-and-white head pattern, orange-yellow bill tipped black, and orange legs. Breeds on Arctic and subarctic shingle beaches and tundra from Canada to Siberia; winters south to sub-Saharan Africa. Forages on invertebrates using stop-run-peck method. Long-distance migrant.

Restricted to open semi-arid flax-and-pasture plateau of central Saint Helena. Insectivorous. Fewer than 350 individuals. CR. Threatened by cats, habitat change, and drought.
