Sanderling
Sanderling: 20–21 cm, pale grey-and-white sandpiper that chases waves on sandy beaches worldwide; in breeding plumage shows rufous head and breast. Breeds on High Arctic tundra across the Holarctic; winters on sandy ocean beaches from Europe and North America to Australia and South America. Feeds on invertebrates in wave-wash zone.

African Snipe: 25–28 cm, medium-large snipe resident in high-altitude wetlands, bogs, and marshy grassland of eastern and southern Africa from Ethiopia and Sudan to the Cape. Cryptic brown-and-buff streaking. Probes soft mud for invertebrates. Sedentary. Performs display 'drumming' flights with spread tail in breeding season.
