About These Birds

Flesh-footed Shearwater

41–45 cm, wingspan 99–107 cm. All-dark sooty-brown with pale flesh-coloured feet and yellowish bill base. Breeds southern Indian Ocean islands and SW Australia; ranges to North Pacific. Near Threatened; bycatch concern. Feeds on fish and squid; follows fishing vessels.

Cape Verde Petrel

33–37 cm. Grey-brown above with pale grey rump; white underparts with dark partial breast smudge. Breeds Cape Verde Islands; ranges across Atlantic Ocean. Closely related to Desertas and Zino's petrels; Vulnerable. Visits colonies only at night; feeds on squid and fish.
