About
Crab-plover: 38–41 cm, unique black-and-white wader with a massive laterally compressed bill adapted for catching crabs. The sole member of family Dromadidae. Breeds colonially in burrows on sandy islands of the Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea; winters on tropical coastal mudflats, mangroves, and reefs across the Indian Ocean. Long-distance migrant.
