A medium Phasianidae spurfowl (~548 g) of lowland and secondary forest edges in West Africa from Ivory Coast to Nigeria. Dark brown streaked white; red orbital skin. Forages on the ground in pairs or small groups for seeds, berries, and invertebrates. Tolerates forest fragments; Least Concern.

Whyte's Francolin

A medium Phasianidae francolin (~488 g) of rocky hillsides, miombo woodland, and brachystegia scrub in Malawi, Zambia, and adjacent countries. Broadly similar to Shelley's Francolin but range largely allopatric. Feeds on seeds and invertebrates on the ground. Least Concern in its central-African highland range.
