About These Birds
Eurasian Golden Plover
Eurasian Golden Plover (Pluvialis apricaria) is a medium 26–29 cm plover. Non-breeding: golden-speckled brown above, whitish below. Breeding: black underparts with white flanks. Breeds on northern European and Siberian moorland; winters on farmland and estuaries of western Europe and North Africa. Migratory. Wingspan to 72 cm.
Spot-breasted Lapwing
Spot-breasted Lapwing: 28–30 cm, Ethiopian highland endemic lapwing with a black head and breast spotted white, and red legs. Restricted to high-altitude moorland and montane grassland above 1,800 m in Ethiopia. Insectivorous. Sedentary; rare and little-studied. Declining due to overgrazing and agricultural encroachment.
