Red-necked Phalarope

Red-necked Phalarope: 18–19 cm, small phalarope with a needle-like bill and orange neck-patch in breeding female. Breeds on subarctic and Arctic tundra pools across Eurasia and North America; winters at sea, especially in the Arabian Sea and eastern Pacific. Spins on water to disturb invertebrates. Polyandrous. Long-distance oceanic migrant.

Sulawesi Woodcock

Sulawesi Woodcock: 32–36 cm, woodcock endemic to montane forest of Sulawesi, Indonesia. Nocturnal with cryptic brown plumage. Inhabits mossy forest above 1,000 m; probes leaf litter and soft soil for invertebrates. NT. Threatened by logging and agricultural conversion of highland forest. Sedentary island endemic.
