About These Birds

Banggai Scops-owl

The Banggai Scops-owl is a Near Threatened small owl of the family Strigidae found on Peleng Island in Indonesia. Weighing about 88g with a wingspan of 30.4cm, it is one of several island-endemic scops-owls in the Indonesian archipelago. It hunts insects and small vertebrates in forest habitats at night.

Snowy Owl

The snowy owl is the heaviest North American owl and one of the most charismatic Arctic birds. Unlike most owls, it is largely diurnal, necessitated by the continuous daylight of Arctic summers. Snowy owl irruptions — periodic mass southward movements — are tied to lemming population cycles.
