About These Birds
Black-collared Barbet
The Black-collared Barbet is a medium-sized, boldly patterned barbet of sub-Saharan southern and East Africa, with a vivid red face and upper breast bordered by a broad black collar. It inhabits woodland, forest edges, and gardens from South Africa north to Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It feeds on figs, fruits, and insects, and excavates nest holes in dead trees.
