About These Birds

Glaucous Gull

Glaucous Gull, 62–68 cm, is an imposing all-white Arctic gull — no dark markings on wing tips. Breeds across the High Arctic and ventures south in winter to both sides of the North Atlantic and Pacific. Predator and scavenger; preys on seabird eggs and chicks at colonies. Powerful aggressive kleptoparasite.

Andean Gull

Andean Gull, 45–48 cm, breeds at high-altitude Andean lakes from Colombia to Argentina, typically above 3000 m. Black hood in breeding plumage; white below with grey mantle. Largely insectivore, following cattle or foraging at lake edges. Partial altitudinal migrant descending to Pacific and Atlantic coasts in winter.
