Sungrebe (Heliornis fulica), 28–31 cm. Small, slender waterbird; brown above with a white-striped black head and orange-yellow feet with lobed toes. Found on shaded forest streams and rivers from Mexico to Argentina. Omnivore. Least Concern; common but secretive along forest waterways.
African Finfoot
African Finfoot (Podica senegalensis), 52–63 cm. Long-necked, cryptic waterbird; brown above, white below with orange-red legs and feet. Inhabits shaded forest rivers, streams and lake margins across sub-Saharan Africa. Omnivore: insects, fish, frogs and plant material. Least Concern but secretive and rarely seen.
