Puna Snipe: 26–28 cm, medium snipe of high Andean wetlands and boggy grassland from Peru south to northwestern Argentina and Chile at 3,000–5,000 m. Cryptic streaked brown plumage. Probes soft ground for worms and invertebrates. Sedentary high-altitude resident. Displays with tail-fanning 'drumming' flight over bogs.

Asian Dowitcher: 33–36 cm, large all-dark dowitcher with a straight blunt-tipped bill and black breeding plumage. Breeds in scattered colonies on Mongolian steppe lakes and Siberian rivers; winters on muddy estuaries and mangrove coasts of South and Southeast Asia. NT. Feeds by deep sewing-machine probing in soft mud. Limited breeding range.
