Black-fronted Dotterel
Black-fronted Dotterel: 16–18 cm, slender Australian plover with a striking black forehead-patch, chestnut shoulder-bar, and red-based black bill. Inhabits margins of inland freshwater wetlands, riverbeds, and reservoirs throughout Australia and New Zealand. Invertebrate feeder. Largely sedentary with nomadic movements after rainfall.

Pied Plover: 22–24 cm, distinctive South American lapwing with bold black-and-white plumage, red facial skin, and long red legs. Inhabits open sandy riverbanks and gravel bars of major rivers from Venezuela south to Argentina. Feeds on invertebrates and small vertebrates. Largely resident; some local seasonal movements. Not globally threatened.
