Antipodean Albatross
Antipodean Albatross, 100–117 cm, wingspan 250–320 cm, breeds on Antipodes and Campbell Islands south of New Zealand. Males are whiter than females; brown-mantled in younger birds. Circumnavigates the Southern Ocean. Endangered; declining due to longline bycatch, plastic ingestion, and climate effects.
Laysan Albatross
Laysan Albatross, 79–81 cm, wingspan 195–203 cm, breeds mainly at Midway Atoll in the North Pacific; the world's largest colony. White body, dark back and upperwing, pink bill. Long-lived; a female named Wisdom, over 70 years old, still breeds. Threatened by lead paint ingestion, plastic, and longline bycatch.
