Burchell's Courser: 20–23 cm, distinctive courser with blue-grey hindneck, rufous breast, and black-and-white belly. Resident of arid Kalahari sand plains and dry open scrub of southern Africa from Namibia and Botswana to South Africa. Insectivorous; crepuscular and somewhat nocturnal. Nomadic, following rainfall.

Breeds on rocky rivers of Madagascar; migrates to winter on the East African coast from Kenya to Mozambique. Aerial insectivore. Regional migrant between Madagascar and East Africa. NT.
