About These Birds

Choco Tinamou

A small dark tinamou with black-barred olive-brown plumage. One of the least-known tinamous in the world, restricted to the Chocó bioregion of Colombia and Panama. Known from very few specimens; virtually unstudied in the field. Inhabits dense lowland Pacific forest.

Great Tinamou

The largest regularly occurring tinamou, with brownish-grey plumage, barred wings, and a pale belly. Common in lowland Neotropical rainforest from Mexico to Bolivia. Males incubate glossy teal-colored eggs. Their haunting multi-note calls resonate through the forest, making them acoustically conspicuous yet visually elusive.
