About These Birds

Kittlitz's Plover

Kittlitz's Plover: 14–16 cm, small African plover with a black forehead and loral mask, white supercilium, and pale sandy-brown upperparts. Common resident throughout sub-Saharan Africa and Madagascar on grazed grassland, airfields, and dry lake margins. Insectivorous. Sedentary to locally nomadic. Highly adaptable to open disturbed habitats.

Spot-breasted Lapwing

Spot-breasted Lapwing: 28–30 cm, Ethiopian highland endemic lapwing with a black head and breast spotted white, and red legs. Restricted to high-altitude moorland and montane grassland above 1,800 m in Ethiopia. Insectivorous. Sedentary; rare and little-studied. Declining due to overgrazing and agricultural encroachment.
