A medium-sized Andean tinamou with brown plumage, pale underparts, and fine barring on the back. Named for Polish zoologist Władysław Taczanowski. Found in high Andes of Peru. Terrestrial and swift-running; calls from grassy puna slopes.

Brownish upperparts with bold pale streaks and black vermiculation. Crown dark; pale supercilium present. Breast finely streaked. Belly whitish. High Andean puna specialist; cryptic pattern.
Habitat & Range
High-altitude puna grassland, scrubby slopes, and rocky terrain at 3,500–5,000 m in the Andes of Peru. Strongly associated with puna bunchgrass and cushion plant zones.

Diet & Feeding
