About These Birds
Pink-footed Shearwater
48 cm, wingspan 109 cm. Large shearwater; brown above, white below with pink feet; dusky underwing border. Breeds Juan Fernandez and Mocha islands, Chile; migrates to North Pacific. Vulnerable; threatened by introduced predators and longline bycatch. Feeds on fish and squid.
White-chinned Petrel
51–58 cm, wingspan 134–147 cm. Large black petrel with distinctive white chin patch and ivory-yellow bill with black marks. Breeds South Georgia, Falklands, Prince Edward, Crozet, Kerguelen. Vulnerable; one of the most common longline bycatch victims in Southern Ocean.
