アフリカ・マダガスカル原産で、現在は世界各地で家禽として飼育されるホロホロチョウ(体長53〜58cm)。灰色の体に白い斑点が全身にあり、裸の青赤い頭部が特徴的。Numida meleagris(ホロホロチョウ)は大きな群れで行動し、地面をかきながら種子、昆虫、塊茎を食べる。昆虫(マダニ等)の駆除に有用として注目されている。Numididae科。
