Shining Imperial-pigeon (Ducula chalconota), 38 cm. Richly iridescent bronze-green upperparts with a contrasting pale grey head and underparts. Found in montane forest of New Guinea from 700 to 2,200 m. Frugivore. Least Concern; common in hill and montane forest.
Purple-winged Ground Dove
Small dove, 18–21 cm; male dark blue with purple wing bars; female brown with rufous wing bars. Tied to Atlantic Forest bamboo in southeastern Brazil, Paraguay, and northeastern Argentina. Nomadic, appearing in flocks only during bamboo seeding. Endangered due to extensive Atlantic Forest loss; rarely recorded in recent decades.
