About These Birds
Eastern Plantain-eater
A large turaco (50-55 cm) found in savanna and woodland across East and Central Africa. Grey-brown plumage with a shaggy crest and yellow bill. Frugivore of woodland trees. Named plantain-eater though diet consists mainly of wild fruits and berries.
Schalow's Turaco
A medium-sized turaco (40-43 cm) found in forests and woodlands of East Africa from Kenya to Zambia. Green plumage with a long, pointed crest tipped white. Crimson wing patches. Frugivore. Named after the German ornithologist Anton Reichenow's colleague Hermann Schalow.
